Metallic Blue Wasp

We experienced a "first" this afternoon....we saw a metallic blue wasp on the hood of our truck.

So after a bit of googling, we determined that we were not witnesses to the existence of a never-before-seen-or-heard-of species of wasp...on the contrary, apparently these are relatively common. I can't believe I've never seen one until today.

I tried to take a couple of pictures before he flew away, but they didn't turn out very good. I'll include two of my shots and one shot we picked up from Google.

We believe this is a "chlorion aerarium" also known as: hunter wasp, blue dauber, digger wasp, cricket hunter wasp, steel blue cricket hunter.
