I have just finished reading my first book of 2006 (cover to cover). P.G. Wodehouse's Something Fresh: A Blandings Story was a delight to read and I devoured most of it while the girls were having nap-time during my vacation. I zipped through quite a few pages on the flights as well (as you might have guessed, we were in the air for roughly 19 hours total for the roundtrip).
This was my first Blandings story and I must say that the name of this particular story was quite appropriate. I had only read Jeeves and Wooster stories from Wodehouse up until now, so this tale of Honourable Freddie Threepwood, Aline Peters, George Emerson, Ashe Marson, Joan Valentine, the Efficient Baxter et al, was certainly fresh.
I am now convinced that it is impossible to read through a complete Wodehouse book without laughing out loud. My biggest laugh came on the plane ride home, but thankfully no air marshals came to settle me down.
I heartily recommend this 238 page quick read to you.
