Grandaddy owns at least four hats that he wears regularly. When I say regularly, I mean that if you catch him without a hat, there is a high probability that he was not conscious when we left his house. Of course, you may see him not wearing it, but you wouldn't have to look far to find it on a hat-rack or on the seat next to him.
All four of his hats are made by Stetson, the Open Road style. He says that back in the day, the hat was known as an "Oklahoma Oil Man's Hat" or sometimes "Tulsa Oil Man's Hat". He's been wearing them since he received his first as a gift for his twelfth birthday in 1928.
He keeps two felts and two straws. In cooler weather, he wears the felts, and in warmer weather, he wears the straws. One of each is "new" (I reckon his newest felt is about 12 to 15 years old) and those are reserved for Sundays and other special occasions. It's hard to find a shop that will "clean and block" a hat, so reserving the "new" hats keeps them from getting bent out of shape through day-to-day wear.
