Honour for scribes and pharisees?

Here is an interesting bit.

Just before Jesus speaks awful things of the scribes and pharisees in the twenty-third chapter of Matthew, he commands his people to honour them.

Though we may witness on occasion, the woeful handling of authority by a man, we must yet be careful that we do not reject our Saviour by rejecting His minister.

We should on every occasion, whether delightful times or difficult times, give thanks to God and pray that He would help us to understand His intentions in sending such times to us.

When we find ourselves as servants under an evil master, is this an "open door" for rebellion or shall we learn well how to humble ourselves?

God, the One who gives authority, may have upbraided the scribes and pharisees, but are his people given license to spurn their authority?
