Hot Topic of the Day

In the rather limited circles of internet sites that I browse (which does include several sites not linked in my right-hand column), today has seen quite a number of sites/blogs with a common topic of interest...no, not the upcoming election or the "controversy" that is often being addressed by every blogger and his cousin...but rather, the "Windsor Report" of the Eames Commission appointed by the Anglican Communion (also referred to as the Lambeth Commission). Most of the folks that stop by here will already be familiar with the fundamental points of the report and the most common preliminary responses. A major issue of interest relates to the Episcopal Church (ECUSA) and its ordination of a homosexual bishop, and the general disregard for widespread contention on that point within the broader Communion.

Now, if I were to digest the report, consider the many responses, and generate an opinion of my own for general consumption here, I should likely be considered as speaking "out-of-school." I have not paid nearly enough attention to all of the facets of the Anglican discussions to have an opinion, and aside from that, I have no position (or acquaintance) which would indicate that my opinion has any value at all regarding this report.

But I do throw out a question and simple comment for consideration: If a child is raised in an atmosphere which knows very little discipline, where all manner of influences are permitted to reign in the mind of the young person, then what should a parent expect when he attempts to enforce some sort of rule when the son or daughter is 17 years old? The homosexual ordination is an issue to be addressed, but it is a symptom of a much, much larger issue. If in the process of "reform", the Church fails to subject herself wholly to God's Word (which would necessarily include a right administration of that Word through discipline), then she cannot hope to avoid future encounters with this problem or others like it.
