Return to normal...in a sense -

Greetings all! I'm happy to report that I am home from a delightful trip to the United Kingdom of Great Britain. We were kept safe in our travels by the one, true, sovereign God and give thanks to Him for abundant lovingkindness.

We enjoyed the whole of roughly 10 days with my wife's family. We introduced Alyssa to her Great Gran and her Great Grandpa and several other extended family members. She was also introduced to flying (her first voyage being no less than 10 hours), and we introduced her to swimming (which was very fun). I was exposed to several firsts - including tours of two grand castles and a stately home. An additional first for me was crossing the border from England into Scotland to visit Great Gran.

The weather was unbelievable - probably 95% of our time there was blue skies and 65 degrees. We were able to see the Atlantic Ocean from Cumbria in England and from Stranraer in Scotland. There were several moments of breath-taking views of rolling hills, tall peaks, quiet lakes, and the coasts. We also breezed through Stratford Upon Avon for lunch one day and saw Shakespeare's birthplace.

Regarding the language, I had discussed previously with Great Grandpa the significance of language differences between English and American English. On this visit, I made a few notes about particular word uses but unfortunately I could not keep up with every difference. I would have needed a tape recorder and a lot of time to give an exhaustive report, but I trust you will enjoy the short list that I will be providing here soon.

This entry has become quite long and I have several more things to note, so look for additional entries regarding our trip - possibly later today.

Thank you for your patience while I was away from regular journaling habits.
