I am going to brush up on debate very soon. I am frustrated because I have managed to forget everything I once knew about the terms for various logical fallacies. Mercifully, God has allowed enough logic to remain in my little brain in order that I can fairly immediately detect logical fallacies in an argument. This is all I need in order to properly sift through an argument, but actually being engaged in the argument requires that I properly identify the fallacies by name in order to ensure accuracy in my rebuttal of illogical assertions.
You see, if I can defend the logical coherency of my argument and illumine the logical error in the opposing argument, I win.
Now, I am referencing a debate regarding the teaching of Scripture, and some would say that my approach is too dependent on human faculty and not dependent enough on the clear teachings of God's Word. In fact, my opponent has already noted that my argument is dependent upon my imposing of logic upon the Scriptures, rather than faithful exegesis.
But my opponent is incorrect. We need to appreciate that order and logic are from God and that to piece together an argument which is illogical cannot possibly be according to God's Word, and will inherently be proven false.
