Put up your dukes -

I do not thrive on controversy, nor do I think it virtuous to be always at odds with everyone. However, I am not in a habit of shrinking away from good and necessary antithesis, and I find it increasingly difficult to walk uprightly without offending someone. I recently received some very good advice from two friends regarding the manner in which we, as Christians, should communicate Truth. I've personalized that advice and summarized it this way:

"Christ demonstated the perfect balance between "winsome influence" and "sword wielding power." As I desire to imitate Him, I believe I fail in both directions: usually in striving to be winsome, I compromise the Truth...while in occasionally declaring the Truth boldly, I end up using the Word as a club to knock people in the head. Nonetheless, I strive for Christ-like balance."
