I was thinking of phrases like "means of grace" and "spiritual disciplines" and "quiet times" recently. Some men have written books on the various ways that we can experience "spiritual formation." Don Whitney defines such formation this way, "Spiritual formation is the biblical process of being conformed inwardly and outwardly to the character of Christ." Such disciplines as journaling and praying are put forward as means of grace in Whitney's book on the subject.
If there were some way to survey all Christians in the world, I wonder what the top vote-getters would be for practices through which God gives such forming grace.
I suppose that one way to get a ballpark idea of that would be to consider the worldwide proportions of Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox Christians. It's probably relatively easy to sketch a rough list of the various "disciplines" that each would rank highly.
