Promise? Us? As Isaac was?

"Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise."

I can't even remember what I used to do with verses like this. I imagine my eyes would get a bit glossy and I would think something like, "Oh, that's a nice encouragement," and then roll on.
