Wisdom Indeed

I am pleased occasionally with finding a biblical sort of wisdom in people or books which do not necessarily give credit to the Source of that wisdom. Obviously, it is not pleasing to see our Triune God neglected, but it is fascinating to me how God has so ordered creation to reflect His glory even when the creature does not have such intentions.

In a book called Rural Wisdom by Jerry Apps, such a sort of wisdom is revealed in several spots. Here is a sample from a chapter called Lifetime Learning: "What we already know can prevent us from learning something new. We must develop the wisdom to know what to discard and what to keep...Our need and ability to take things apart and name each piece prevents us from seeing wholes, from seeing what something really is...If we try to learn too quickly, we will often miss the understanding that time and contemplation provide."

Here is another medley of quotes that I thought you might enjoy: "A cotton shirt and a couple pair of bib overalls are about all a man needs, except for going to church. New overalls for trips to town on Saturday night. Faded overalls for work." "Avoid wearing a necktie; it cuts off circulation to the brain and thus prevents clear thinking." "There is reason to suspect the sanity of a farmer who does not complain."
