Marking special days

I almost forgot my beardiversary. In fact, I did forget it until today (12 days late). But today was a good day to remember it anyway, since it is the birthday of the man partly responsible for inspiring my beard. On this day in 1824, a man named Thomas Jonathan Jackson was born in Clarksburg, Virginia and would later become a Civil War General by the nickname of Stonewall.

A little over a year ago, through a couple of kind providences, I became aware of several reasons to honour the memory of General "Tom" Jackson, not the least of which was that he was a manly man of God. He was not perfect, but I'm thankful to have learned about him and been encouraged to imitate several good character qualities in him, particularly through a presentation by Briarwood Presbyterian Church's Senior Pastor Harry Reeder.

General Jackson is attributed the quote, "Duty is ours; the consequences are God's."
