First, let us acknowledge that strong Christians can occasionally fail to maintain a proper view of the world and can fall into a carnal perception of the world around them and can even entertain carnal desires. We all sin and fall short of His perfect standard.
But the unrepentant sinner reveals a heart which has no union with Christ. Romans 8:7 says "the carnal mind is enmity against God." This is to say that those who are slaves to fleshly desires and worldly endeavors are not living according to the Spirit of God. The word enmity suggests hostility and is an accurate picture of the heart of the unrepentant sinner.
Those who are children of God and heirs with Christ, inheriting the Kingdom of God, should put away carnal thoughts and renew the mind by the precious Word of God. Set your mind on things above (Col. 3). Let us walk in the Spirit (Gal. 5). Do not be drunk with wine, but be filled with the Spirit (Eph. 5). Set nothing wicked before your eyes (Psalm 101). Meditate on things worthy of your renewed mind (Phil. 4). Grow in grace and knowledge of Christ (1 John 3).
A primary means of being stirred by the Spirit to pursue holiness in our lives is to thoroughly immerse ourselves in His Word and seek earnestly through prayer to be transformed by it.
